Outplacement Counselling for Executives
in the Field of Communications, Brand Management and
Public Relations.
Tessera Consulting has combined it’s
expertise in executive coaching with it’s in-depth
knowledge in the field of Communications and Public
Relations to offer a comprehensive outplacement package.
Outplacement counselling is offered as
a means of preparing an individual for a fulfilling
and productive life (in or outside of employment) once
his/her tenure at a given company has expired. This
is an important opportunity not only for the individual
to learn and explore his/her options but also for the
business to send out a clear message to it’s employees
– "We will look after you".
If redundancy is handled badly, you can
risk losing not just the people directly affected but
also damage morale and potentially lose other key staff
you may wish to retain. By taking steps to manage an
employee’s transition from his/her current job,
a business has a greater chance of promoting an atmosphere
of trust, support and commitment within the organisation.
Tessera’s expertise in the area
of Communications and Public Relations (through it’s
sister company, Dyson Consulting International) means
that we are able to provide comprehensive outplacement
package for Communications executives. However, we are
also able to provide general outplacement counselling
for most professional functions outside the area of
communications, by utilising our extensive skills in
personnel assessment and development (see below).
Our Offering
There are three areas where Tessera Consulting are able
to add value to the outplacement process.
1) General Career Counselling and Assessment
of Strengths, Motivations and Interests
This level of engagement can be provided
to all professionals, regardless of background.
Tessera consultants are qualified practitioners
in many of the UK most popular psychometric questionnaires.
In order to provide the most effective personal guidance
and coaching, we use tools such as the MBTI®, FIRO-B™
and Strong Interest Inventory™. The goal is to
create a general picture with regards to the individuals
strengths and career preferences. The personality questionnaires
provide an insight into the individual’s leadership
style, decision-making style and preferred work environments.
The interest inventories provide information on the
specific areas of career interest (such as arts, academic
or practical careers) as well as specific job titles
that the respondent may find interesting.
General counselling is also required to
gauge the respondent’s level of motivation, their
expectations (re, future career) and future financial/lifestyle
requirements.
2) Professional Skills Assessment and
Business Planning
For Public Relations, Communications
and Brand Managers only
Tessera’s years of experience in
the Communications/Public Relations industry means that
we are ideally positioned to be able to offer specific
career advice and mentoring.
In order to find out what is likely to
be the most suitable position for the candidate, Tessera
will generate a list of PR/Brand Management/Communications
competencies with which the respondent can provide a
self-assessment of strengths and weaknesses.
This can then be compared to the respondent’s
biographical information and resume in order to tease
out where it is that the candidate can add real experience
and value to an organisation’s PR function. This
checklist can also provide Tessera Consulting with enough
information to draw up an ‘ideal job description’
as well as a shortlist of possible companies who may
require those skills.
The candidate is then encouraged to review
his/her personal strengths as well as professional strengths
in order to generate a comprehensive business plan which
will be reviewed and developed by a Tessera Consultant.
3) Practical Guidance for Job Search
For Public Relations, Communications
and Brand Managers only
Tessera also has the expertise to offer
practical help in searching for the best PR job as well
as helping the candidate to prepare for job interviews
and develop his/her resume.
Interview skills training will incorporate
general relaxation techniques, communication techniques
and specific interview skills. This is likely to be
accomplished by utilising role-play exercises.
Tessera will also be able to suggest specific
companies for the candidate to consider, and then at
a later stage, approach. Once a candidate has discovered
which positions in which companies are appropriate for
them, Tessera will also help the candidate to adapt
his/her resume as appropriate.
